Depth-Oriented Psychological Therapy for Individuals and Couples in Bendigo

Psychoanalytic, relational and reflective psychological care for adults and couples

“Our deepest fears and desires often lie outside the realm of conscious awareness.”Wilfred Bion

Welcome to Manas Psychology. As a Clinical Psychologist and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist, my work centres on creating a thoughtful and steady space where your inner world can be explored with depth and reflective care. Many people come to therapy carrying feelings, questions or patterns they have lived with for a long time — some clearly known, others sensed but not yet understood.

In our sessions, you are invited to bring whatever arises: thoughts, feelings, concerns, memories, hopes or uncertainties. Therapy offers time and space to reflect on how your emotional life has taken shape — across the past, in relationships, and in your current experience. Some of this may sit outside day-to-day awareness, and therapy allows room for these deeper layers to be explored at a thoughtful pace.

Manas Psychology Bendigo offers depth-oriented, psychoanalytic therapy for adults and couples who are seeking space to understand themselves deeply more fully. This approach may support greater clarity about emotional patterns, relational dynamics, and the parts of yourself that feel conflicted, hidden or difficult to put into words.

You can learn more about my background and therapeutic approach on the About Me and Therapeutic Approach pages.

How Therapy Can Help

People often seek therapy at moments when life feels heavier, more complicated or more confusing than usual. You may be experiencing:

  • Persistent anxiety, tension or inner pressure
  • Relationship difficulties or uncertainty in a partnership
  • Low mood, depression or a sense of feeling “flat” or distant from yourself
  • The ongoing effects of trauma or painful life experiences
  • Addictive or compulsive patterns that are hard to shift
  • Questions about identity, belonging, culture or sexuality
  • Stress, lack of direction or conflict related to work or career
  • The feeling that previous therapy touched only the surface

Within the Psychoanalytic psychotherapy  approach, symptoms are understood not just as problems but as meaningful expressions of emotional life. Therapy provides a space to explore the patterns, expectations and early experiences that shape how difficulties are felt and understood.

More reflections on these themes can be found in Useful Articles, Papers and Books section as well as Personal Articles and Reflections page.

A Depth-Oriented, Psychoanalytic Approach

My therapeutic work is grounded in:

  • Psychoanalytic psychotherapy — exploring emotional patterns, internal conflicts, unconscious motivations and the influence of early relationships
  • Depth psychology — understanding symptoms as expressions of underlying emotional life
  • Relational therapy — recognising the therapeutic relationship as an important part of the process

This way of working may suit people who:

  • Sense that their experiences are shaped by deeper emotional currents
  • Have tried short-term or strategy-based therapies but felt something important remained unaddressed
  • Value time, reflection, emotional honesty and ultimately internal freedom
  • Are seeking a space where their inner experience can be thought about deeply and carefully and without an urgent need to seek ‘strategies and solutions’

More details can be found on the Therapeutic Approach and About pages.

How Therapy Unfolds

Therapy usually begins with an initial consultation, where we explore your current circumstances and what has prompted you to reach out. As sessions continue, the work often deepens into a shared exploration of:

  • Recurring emotional and relational patterns
  • How past experiences shape present difficulties
  • Parts of the self that feel conflicted, uncertain or hard to articulate
  • The emotional meanings connected to symptoms, dreams, fantasies and reactions

Most people attend weekly at a regular time to support continuity and depth in the work.
